My Life as an RA

Good morning everyone! It is Monday!

This weekend I stayed at school and decided to go on rounds of the campus with my boss because he was RDOD, (resident director on duty). The campus was swarming with people, but nothing was “happening.”

When we were leaving the last building we had to visit, he saw someone throw a HUGE traffic cone out the window. We obviously cannot ignore things like this because not only is it a policy violation, but it puts others in harm. He called public safety and when we got up to the apartment, no one answered the door.

Finally a girl and a guy answered the door and said that they did not live in the apartment and that everyone had left them. We let them go and soon enough we see a huge crowd of people coming towards the room and so we tell them to stop and they RUN!!!

We went on a chase, only to find out that no one left the building, but that they ran into another room.(which we did not have a clue which room) When we went back up to the apartment, 3 guys were there. Tt was an all girl apartment, so once again, none of them lived there.

We started to get annoyed because people continued to try to come back, but no one lived there. We told everyone to leave and locked the apartment door that the girls had left unlocked. The cone culprit is yet to be found.

The rest of the night consisted of us riding around campus with the police officers, waiting for a call. We had no calls, just plenty of jokes from car to car.

If it’s one thing I have learned as an RA, it’s that when you are expecting something to happen, nothing happens, when you expect a quiet night, EVERYTHING happens.

It was just one of those wierd Friday nights where nothing happened…

OH WELL!! GOOD FOR US!!! NO REPORTS!! =)

Have a great week everyone!

It is friday!! I am so excited!!

Today will be such an exciting day because we have the RA Banquet and the theme is hollywood. This means I am getting super dressed up today! On top of that my boss is working tonight and I made over one hundred cookies last night to bring around to public safety and the other RA’s that will be on =).

To top off all the awesomeness I had my NINJA event on Wednesday and it was fun. I am required to have a campus-wide event and I chose to do NINJA. It actually is an acronym that I made up with the help of some other RA’s with steps to making important decisions. Only 12 people came BUT… we had loads of fun! Here are some pics:

have a NINJA day!!

and since it is may fourth…… MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU!! =)

WELCOME WEDNESDAY!!

TODAY IS GOING TO BE A GREAT DAY!! WHY?? I HAVE A CAMPUS WIDE EVENT!!! I am so excited!! PICS TO COME FROM THE EVENT!!

Anyways… let’s talk about the winner mentioned on my lovely title, shall we? WE sure shall.

Last night I was on duty, and at around 130 AM I go down to lock the lounge. When I close the lounge door, a bunch of drunk people come out of the elevator to go to the bar… I hear someone throw a cup in the elevator and I asked who threw it and the last kid out said he didn’t do it (of course). One of the girls in the elevator picked up the cup for him. I have a few things to mention on his behalf:

1ST: He does not even live in our building

2nd: He goes there to get his laundry done and drink

3rd: He has no respect for anyone there (hence the thrown cup)

Verdict: NUMBER ONE PLACE ON MY HIT LIST!!

WHAT A WINNER!!!

Next time I see him, he will get a nice loooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggg talk about how I do not respect his lack of respect in my Hall. I think I might have to write this down with big eloquent words just to throw him off.

We will see =)

ANYWAYS!! HAVE A HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

HI ALL!!

It’s monday!! I hope you all had a great weekend!

My weekend was pretty enjoyable, but when I got back to school, I found out that we might be getting a charge. This is a huge deal because we have gone charge free all semester!

The cause of the charge: Beer spilt all over the elevator =(

Poor Erick, he had so come in to mop the elevator. No one had the keys for the closet where the mop was in, so Erick was called to come in at around midnight.

Oh well…Can’t be perfect always.

Have a great week everyone!!

Hey all!!

So by now you all know that I am an RA off campus. Well last night I decided to come to campus because I needed to get some shots of all the RA’s for superlatives that we are doing.

As soon as I get to campus, I see some officers and go over to talk to them. They were rushing to their car becasue there was a fire alarm. I hopped right in with them and took a ride over. When we got there, not even half of the RA staff was around to do rounds of the building…I am so glad I was there to help.

What I thought was funny was the officer in the car in front of us was speeding over to the building, and they had already announced over the radio that there was no actual fire.

If you guys could see that man run out of a car you would laugh. He had the silliest waddle run I HAD EVER SEEN!!

It kind of looked something like this. Except he had a lot of clothes on and was shorter =) Very entertaining.

Anyways.. after the round was done, I went around to all the buildings and filmed as many RA’s as possible, and I ended up getting back to my apartment at around 1AM.

  • What I miss about campus: seeing so many faces
  • What I do not miss about campus: being sucked in and staying up late…and going to fire alarms (we have plenty)

THATS ALL I GOT TODAY!!

HAPPY FRIDAY…ENJOY THE WEEKEND!!

WELCOME TO THROWBACK THURSDAY!!

I have anticipated writing this post, and trying my best to make this as decent as possible. I think I will succeed:

SOOO…. Last year, as my first year as an RA, the year was coming to an end and everything had gone well. It was a sunday night and I was in my room watching the pirates of the Caribbean with some of my residents. We were almost done with the third one when around midnight I hear screaming.

Now, usually the screaming goes away, but this did not stop. I pause the movie and go out to see what it going on. What I saw I can never get back.. One of the guys from the floor below me was butt naked jumping up and down on the stair landing. As soon as he saw me he covered him self and ran down the stairs.

I followed him and I see a HUGE CROWD of people laughing at him. I send them all away and tell him to put some clothes on. He proceeded to partyboy one of my residents and then tells me he doesn’t want to stop because its fun.

I obviously called public safety and they got there so fast! Two officers for this one kid! He was so rude and loud to the officers I was amazed he didn’t leave in handcuffs that night. On top of all this, his teammate from the baseball team was trying to talk the cops down and take responsibility for everything! HE WAS DRUNK TOO!!

When the officers asked him if was naked earlier (at this point he had put on boxers when they found out the cops were coming) he said no and they looked at me and ask did you see this kid naked? and I said yes, and they turned back to him and said you were naked.

They finally got him to bed and sent me off to my room. I RAN UP SO FAST AND LOCKED THE DOOR!! His teammate was looking at me with such evil eyes.

OH THE THINGS I HAD TO DEAL WITH LAST YEAR….Freshman are something else….

I hope you enjoyed this post!!  I can now laugh about this, but last year, I was almost crying!

I do not even know where to begin with this blog. I absolutely love food, and I love cooking it. One of my favorite things about living in an apartment is being able to be creative and cook. One of the ISO’s called me the floor chef yesterday because any time you put something in the pan the whole hallway smells wonderfully.

Unfortunately there are mishaps sometimes and we end up with fire alarms. My roommate caused one a couple of months back because she left the pan on the heat too long. She put butter on it and our apartment door was open, so the smoke went to the hallway and the rest was history.

Today I wanted to direct everyone to a blog I am currently following. She posts some really cool recipes and tips as well!! This is helpful for the college student trying to get by, or to people who are trying to learn to cook! =) Illustrated Bites

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!!

look for my throwback thursday post tomorrow =)

GOOD MORNING!!

It is Monday and that means the start of a new week. Time to forget about this past weekend and think of a happy new week. Spring weekend if officially OVER!!

I must say though it was fun and I got a new trucker hat, (pic to follow in the bottom). On Saturday, we had TYGA come to our school for a concert. Since the doors opened at 6pm, you can already imagine how drunk these people got, not to mention how early!

The night started off great but once the concert was over, it was hectic. Around 11pm people started rolling in and we had to trespass a girl who tried climbing up the patio of our building with help from her friends. Her drunk friend of course got put into protective custody because he could barely walk!

The interesting part of the night was around 3AM. We had someone come down and tell us his friend had drunk and was sleeping and fell off the top bunk and was not responding. After about 10 minutes they got a response from him but had to take him to hospital to check him to see if he got a concussion. He did not look happy when the EMT’s pull him out in a stretcher all strapped up. We checked up on him and he is doing fine now, THANK GOD!! =)

Did I mention, he threw up everywhere =/. Poor Erick, our maintainer had to come in at 3:30 to clean up the room that was full of vomit.

The night finally began to quiet down after that, and sunday consisted of me, in my bed, attempting to do homework. After-all, I am still in school! =)

HAPPY MONDAY!!

It’s a Tuesday night and one of your fellow RA’s gets sick and so you offer to cover the desk for them. You get ready, put on your work attire (duty duds) and do a round of the building. You get downstairs and sit on the couch as you watch residents come in. Since it is Tuesday, Hall council shows up and has a meeting for about an hour. A quick hour of duty has already gone by.

The second hour of duty begins and you go on another round of the building, everything is quite, almost too quiet as you are finishing the round on the last floor. You sit back down on the couch and this time there is no one but you there. At around 10:30 the sick RA comes back from the hospital and talks to you about how he is feeling. 15 minutes later and you are packing up again to go on another round. The round is finished and now you can stay in your room for the rest of the night.

Hour three has now begun and you are in your room minding your business when your roommate informs of you of some loud residents on the patio. You walk outside and tell them they need to be quiet or you will call public safety. As you are talking to them the cold night are is blowing on your bare skin and your legs are shaking. You give them one chance to be quiet and calm the loud drunk resident down.

Hour four and you go on the midnight round. Building is quiet again and so you go back to your apartment and skype your boyfriend.

Hour five rolls around and the last round is so close and at your finger tips. You do the round skeptically looking and waiting something is to happen, and before you know it, you are homefree in your bed getting ready to sleep.

As you begin to dose off you hear a sound, not a half hour after you get into bed, by someone shouting and stomping. You quickly gather yourself together and go directly to the location of the noise. Nothing is around and the hallway is silent. As you are on your trek back to your room, you hear a sound again and go back to check. You stumble upon the same drunk kid as earlier but this time with no shoes.

Your eyes are wanting to close but you know you have to stay awake. You ask the resident what is wrong and all he states is that his friends have disowned him. You ask him about his shoes… his response that its irrelevant and runs away. As you follow behind him on his trail to the patio you are on the phone with public safety informing them about the situation and the RDOD(resident director on duty) as well. You inform them that the resident has climbed over the railing of the patio to the other side and has now jumped onto the dumpster and down onto the parking lot.

Not knowing how exactly to react, and knowing once you step outside you will be cold again, you go for the safety of the intoxicated “friend.” You ask him to come back and he shouts NO YOU COME TO DUMPSTER AND PICK ME BACK UP!! speechles you pause and ask him to quiet down. You attempt to convince him that coming inside is the best thing. He refuses and runs away.

You are at the home stretch of the night (or so you think) once the officers arrive. Three of them for this one kid. They decide to PC (protective custody) him for the night until he sobers up.

Half an hour later and you find yourself in your boss’s office writing a report of what happened and informing some of the residents how to do so as well.

2:30AM and about an essay of a report later, you arrive in your room, lock the door, turn off the lights, crawl back into bed, flip the warm covers over you, snuggle with all your teddy bears, close your eyes, and pass out.

That is your life … Just another unexpected night for You, the RA.

“now you just wait one second, what in the world do you think you’re doing?”
